This summer, we were delighted to welcome four interns from a variety of educational backgrounds, each bringing fresh perspectives, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Working alongside colleagues across several departments, they contributed to projects spanning technology, operations, human resources and business transformation, gaining valuable insight into the financial services industry.
Louis Cassidy-Soriano, joined the IT and Operations team following the completion of his AS Levels, having studied Maths, Economics and ICT. During his five-week placement, Louis became involved in several operational projects, including testing and implementing automated email processes using Power Automate. The experience provided him with valuable exposure to workplace technology, project planning and collaborative working environments.
Reflecting on his time at FIM Capital, Louis said the experience broadened his understanding of the financial services industry while helping him develop practical technical and communication skills. He was particularly surprised by the level of teamwork required across the business and the importance of collaboration in delivering successful outcomes.
Recent graduate Charlotte Clarke joined the Human Resources team for an eight-week internship before beginning her postgraduate studies at Durham University, where she is pursuing an MSc in Defence, Diplomacy and Development. Working closely with the HR team, Charlotte contributed to a range of strategic and operational initiatives, including workforce analysis, people strategies and internal presentations. Through these projects, she developed stronger analytical and presentation skills while gaining a deeper appreciation of the role people play in business success.
Charlotte said one of the most valuable lessons she learned was that successful organisations are built on understanding people. She was particularly interested in seeing how tailored HR strategies support employee development and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
Also joining the Human Resources team was Maeve Tonge, who is currently studying Economics at Newcastle University. During her six-week internship, Maeve gained experience across a broad range of HR activities while taking ownership of her own responsibilities and contributing to wider team projects.
Through working with colleagues across the business, Maeve developed a greater understanding of how the different departments interact and support one another. She was particularly struck by the welcoming and supportive culture at FIM Capital, noting that colleagues were always willing to provide guidance and assistance when needed. The placement also strengthened her confidence and communication skills, reinforcing her interest in pursuing a career in financial services after university.
For Isabel Crichton, the Summer Internship Programme led to an exciting next step: a extended position with FIM Capital as a Transformation Support Technician.
A graduate in Game Art, specialising in visual development and concept art, Isabel joined the Operations and IT team for a four-week placement, bringing experience from a communications internship with Manx Wildlife Trust and a previous role as an Art & Design Technician. Her journey demonstrates how skills developed across different disciplines can open doors to opportunities within financial services.
During her internship, Isabel worked on key business projects, including Project Modern and Project Horizon, helping to develop procedures, support technology initiatives and contribute to cybersecurity and data protection processes. Her contribution to these initiatives provided valuable practical experience and helped pave the way for her appointment.
While each intern brought different experiences, ambitions and interests, all four made a positive contribution to FIM Capital. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to embrace new challenges highlight the value of providing meaningful workplace experience, helping young people develop their skills, build confidence and explore future career opportunities within the Isle of Man's financial services sector.Sara Collister, Chief Operating Officer at FIM Capital, said:
"Providing meaningful opportunities for young people to gain hands-on experience is an important part of our commitment to developing future talent on the Isle of Man.
